Budget Decorating For the Home

Updated: Oct 5, 2020

Having spaces in your home for you to relax and recharge is very important. Going all out in decorating for the home or even one room may not be in the budget right now. But, the good news is that you can change your living environment in a budget-friendly way. From making it more modern or creating a sanctuary to making a room more user-friendly…..there are ways to make big changes with less money. Recently, I made some changes to my own bedroom.

Making a Bedroom More Peaceful and Modern

I wanted to make my bedroom feel more peaceful and modern. I wanted to create a sanctuary to rest and relax in, but I didn't want to overspend. I decided to set a budget for my bedroom refresh to see how many updates I could make. I budgeted $300 for my bedroom project and began planning what I was going to do.

Furniture Refresh

It was not in my budget to buy all new bedroom furniture, but I knew I wanted to give it a different look. I chose to use chalky paint to give it a more modern look. It took three coats of paint due to the base color of the furniture, but the paint (along with the wax finish I had from a previous project) made a big difference in the look of the furniture.

Bedding and Linens

This is a great way to make a significant change in your bedroom without spending a lot of money or putting in a lot of time. I purchased a new comforter set, sheet set, throw blanket, and pillows for a little over $200 to give my bedroom a more peaceful and cozier feel. Combining this with the new look of my furniture changed my room's overall look without painting walls or changing flooring.

Wall Refresh

I wanted to add something to the walls but didn't want to repaint my whole room. Instead, I purchased a decal to go onto the wall with one of my favorite bible verses to put on the wall over my bed. It gave the wall a new look and gave the room a more peaceful feel as well.

Cost Breakdown:

Chalky paint: $18.99⠀

Comforter set: $139.99 ⠀

Sheet set: $24.60⠀

New pillows (2): $26.99⠀

Lampshades (2): $13.00 each⠀

Throw blanket: $13.99⠀

Wall decal: $14.99⠀

Total: $265.55 ⠀

This, along with the things I already had, really changed my bedroom's look and feel. It now feels more peaceful, and it’s truly my sanctuary when I want to rest and relax. It takes some planning, but budget decorating for the home can be done. You only have to get started!
